What is "A Drunk Email Is Forever"?

This project is a book of our favorite emails (Sent and Unsent) collected from all over the world.

Something magical happens when emails are pulled off a computer screen and printed into a tangible, real book one can curl up with and read late into the evening with no required electrogizmos.

Volume 1 of "A Drunk Email Is Forever" was originally published as a gift to friends in time for the short days and long nights of the holiday season.  The book was a way for us to come together, commiserate, make fun of ourselves, and clean out the attic in our heads in time to welcome the new year.  It's comforting to know we are all human.

Wait, I don't write emails when I'm drunk.

One need not have been drunk when the email was written.  "Drunk email" is about the spirit of the interaction, not the technicalities.  Emails are a pure form of communication; we write unselfconsciously and without self-censure.  What we end up with is writing that is uninhibited and real.  Here are sample emails (some were published in Volume 1), to show you the range of what we include.

What is "Love Letters We Never Sent"?

We all have them.  Unsent emails collecting dust in our Drafts folder.  Those "maybe I'll let them know how I really feel", or "I feel better pretending I sent this" emails not yet released into the world.  A separate section of the book is devoted to these masterpieces.  Like these.

Can I submit IMs and email threads (back and forth conversations)?

Yes.  Those are fun to read in a book too.  Like this obscene one.

Please.  I don't want anyone to know I wrote this.

Of course.  All entries via our submissions database are anonymous.  As well, we review all submissions before publishing to ensure names and personal info are removed.

How can I participate?

Submit your favorites to be considered for inclusion in the next Drunk Email book. We treasure the full gamut of human emotion.  Anything that shows a kernel (or more) of truth about the human experience, whether outright obnoxious, brash, drunken, we've-all-been-there-crazy, or whimsical, silly, light and nonsensical.

Remember: actual drunkenness while writing not required.  Drunk on emotion works just as well.
